Who it is for
Adults and teenagers, from complete beginners to advanced speakers, who want English for something specific: a job, a degree, an exam, travel, or holding their own in a real conversation.
What we work on
Six kinds of English lesson
Conversation and fluency
Fluency, confidence and the vocabulary to hold your own in a real discussion. All levels.
Professional communication
Job interview preparation, business English, and speaking precisely under pressure.
SAT and ACT English
Reading, Writing and Language: what the sections reward, what they quietly penalise, and how to work to time without losing accuracy.
AP and IGCSE English
Rhetorical analysis, argument and close reading, at the level the exams actually grade, and the essay habits that carry into university.
English for beginners
Starting from the ground up, in English or through Spanish where that helps. Levels A1 to A2.
English literature
Reading closely, and writing about what you read without hedging.
Also: American English, intensive courses, English for travelling, ESL and ESOL, and business English.
How lessons run
Structured, but relaxed
The first session is an assessment and a plan. I find out where your English actually is, what you need it for, and what is getting in the way. After that, lessons adapt to your goals and how you learn rather than to a fixed syllabus.
Lessons are about something: a real subject, such as an article, an argument or a decision at work, worked through in English because that is what the subject requires. The focus throughout is fluency, pronunciation and expressing complex ideas clearly, the things that decide whether people follow you.
Between lessons you practise in Chiron: an SAT diagnostic and vocabulary, AP and IGCSE labs and a writing workshop, and English practice and conversation, depending on what you are working towards.
